GurgaonChandigarh, Dec 4 (PTI) 'Student Police Cadet' programmewill be inaugurated from the Tau Devi Lal Sports complex atGurgaon on December 24 by Home Minister Rajnath Singh,Haryana's Additional Director General of Police, O P Singh,who is in-charge of the event, said today.

He said Rajnath Singh will be the chief guest and HaryanaChief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will preside over theevent.

"The programme is for students of class eight and nineand is aimed at promoting in them discipline, civicconsciousness and a culture of voluntary compliance to law,"the senior IPS officer said.

To create awareness about the programme, it would beanchored by students selected through Online Anchoring TalentSearch Contest, O P Singh said.

"While the programme is for students of Class eight andnine, the contest will be open for students in class nine to12 from December 5-15.

"The contestants need to upload a two-minute video inHindi or English on Facebook.com/studentpolicecadetprogram,showcasing their anchoring talent by speaking preferably aboutStudent Police Cadet Programme," the IPS officer said.

"A jury will view the videos and shortlist 16contestants, eight girls, for auditions on the basis of theirstage confidence, diction and the number of 'likes' and'shares' their video attract from viewers," he said.

O P Singh said the jury will finally select four winners,including two girls, and the final result would be announcedon December 20.

Apart from the opportunity to anchor the programme in thepresence of the home minister, the winners would be awardedcommendation certificates, computers, smartphones, harddrives, discount hampers and other things.

"We want the event to carry a stamp of young children.

One way to do it is to let them manage the stage," P Singhsaid.

The 'Student Police Cadet Programme' is an initiative ofthe central government, which will be implemented by thepolice in their states, he said.

The programme aims at encouraging the students to knowpolice from close quarters. The idea is to help themunderstand the importance of rule of law and its role inpeace, development and sustained creation of new income andemployment opportunities, the officer said.

"The takeaway for student cadets from the programme willbe an informed mind, understanding how the rule of law isachieved and an opportunity to be ambassadors of a culture ofwilful and voluntary compliance to law.

"On the other hand, the police will have a better insightinto the impact they are making on the society through theirwork. In addition, they will also be able to encourage andmotivate bright young kids to look for a career in police," hesaid. PTI SUN MGNSD.
