Nashik/Mumbai, Dec 7 (PTI) A BPCL pipeline carryingdiesel from Manmad in Nashik district to Mumbai was allegedlybreached by unidentified fuel thieves in Niphad taluka, policesaid today.

The incident came to light at around 6 A.M, but bythen hundreds of litres of diesel had flowed alongsideMumbai-Manmad road.

The leak was plugged by 11 A.M, a police officialsaid.

According to an official from Sykheda police stationin Nashik district, the rupture caused the fuel wastagerunning into thousands of litres.

He, however, said the leakage came to notice late lastnight in Khangaon Thadi area.

"Thousands of litres of diesel entered nearbyagriculture fields as well as the Godavari river," theofficial claimed.

After the leakage was reported , BPCL officials rushedto the spot while the police cordoned off the area.

Fire tenders have been stationed around the area, theofficial said.

Both BPCL and Indian Oil Corporation have fuel storagedepots at Panewadi near Manmad in Nashik district.

Tankers transport petrol and diesel from Panewadi tovarious destinations.

A case was being registered in Sykheda police station.
