Bengaluru, Dec 7 (PTI) The Karnataka government issetting up its first 3D planetarium with state-of-the-artprojection systems at Mangaluru at an estimated cost ofRs 35.69 crore to help students learn science, among otherthings.

The planetarium will be thrown open to the public inJanuary next year, Karnataka Science and Technology MinisterM R Seetharam said at the ninth edition of the Bengaluru IndiaNano 2017 here.

"The planetarium will create awareness aboutastronomical concepts and help students learn science,technology, engineering and mathematics," he said.

Seetharam said the government is taking steps to setup five more mini-planetariums, one each in Dharwad, Bagalkot,Vijayapura, Madikeri and Gadag.

The government has also upgraded the Jawaharlal Nehruplanetarium with a modern projection system at a cost of Rs 12crore as per present-day requirements, he said.

It is also establishing 25 Science Centres in ruralareas to popularise developments in science and technology andprovide opportunity to develop scientific temper.

Seetharam also expressed confidence about Bengalurutransforming into a Nano Tech Hub of India in the coming year.

"A number of startup companies are already working onhow to apply and make best use of nanotechnology inmulti-disciplinary domains like electronics, biotechnology,information and communication, food, energy, computer scienceand so on," he said. PTI BDNBN.
