Mumbai, Dec 7 (PTI) A Thane police inspector wasarrested today under the charge of kidnapping a married womanpolice official who went missing from neighbouring Navi Mumbai19 months ago.

Assistant Police Inspector (API) Ashwini Bidre (37)went missing from Kalamboli area of Navi Mumbai last April.

Her family members lodged a complaint against AbhayKurundkar, who is posted as Police Inspector, Thane (rural),with Kalamboli police station, the Navi Mumbai Police said ina press note today.

Her family suspected that she was kidnapped andkilled.

Bidre's family approached the Bombay High Court as thepolice failed to trace her.

On the orders of the HC, the Kalamboli Police todayarrested Kurundkar.

Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale hasconfirmed the arrest of Kurundkar.

He has been booked under sections 364 (kidnapping orabducting in order to murder), 497 (adultery) 323 (punishmentfor voluntarily causing hurt) and other relevant sections ofthe IPC, a senior official said.

Bidre, who hailed from Kolhapur in westernMaharashtra, was working in the Human Rights Commissiondepartment of Navi Mumbai.

Kurundkar had met Bidre at the Sangli Training Centre.
