Mumbai, Dec 7 (PTI) The country's third largest carmaker Tata Motors has partnered with IIT Varanasi to launchinnovative programs in education and research,aimed atbridging the gap between academic excellence and businessknow-how.

As a first step of this technological collaboration,the two entities will work in areas of mutual interest,with an aim to cater to the future engineering needs of theindustry and academia, as per a release issued today.

Tata Motors and IIT Varanasi have signed an initialpact, which will be valid for five years, to give effect tothe partnership, under which joint R&D projects will also beundertaken for the development of new technologies in variousengineering domains, the release said.

"Through this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), weintend to have a multi-dimensional partnership with IIT BHU,which will help us retain our competitive edge and developnext-gen engineering skills, not only within the company butalso that of our academic partners with future readyfaculties," Tata Motors' chief human resources officerGajendra Chandel said on the tie-up.

"With fast-changing technologies and marketconditions, we understand the need to articulate a clearroadmap towards a world-class, competent, talented andinnovative workforce," Chandel added.

This partnership will help Tata Motors bridge the gapbetween academic excellence and business know-how, to createindustry ready resources besides supporting ‘Make in India’,‘Skill India’ and ‘Startup India’ programmes, he said.

"This partnership will enable joint research inspecific areas which will feed into the future products ofTata Motors, as well as advanced training of students. We arelooking that at the end of the program we will have created atalent pool which is ahead of the curve, acquiring advancedknowledge, and narrowing the skills-gap," IIT (BHU) VaranasiDirector Rajeev Sangal said his university's collaborationwith the domestic auto major.
