PanditsJammu, Dec 11 (PTI) An umbrella organisation of KashmiriPandits today demanded a status of 'Internally DisplacedPeople' for the community members living outside theirhomeland and sought an inquiry into what led to their exodusin 1989-90.

All-India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS), an apex bodyrepresenting over 60 Kashmiri Pandit organisations world-wide, also batted for creation of concentrated settlementsfor the community in the Valley.

"The Government of India should initiate steps to set inmotion process of declaring community as Internally DisplacedPeople (IDP) as enunciated in the UN Human Rights Charter,"Maharaj K Pajan, General Secretary of AIKS, said.

AIKS held its annual general meeting in Amritsar todayand passed resolution with regard to various demands of thecommunity. PTI ABKIS.
