Bhubaneswar, Dec 15 (PTI) The BJP today accused theBiju Janata Dal government in Odisha of playing the role of anescapist by adjourning the assembly sine-die about a fortnightahead of its schedule.

Instead of allowing discussion on problems of farmersand other burning issues the BJD government adjourned theHouse sine-die, BJP Odisha unit president, Basant Panda toldreporters here.

"Though the winter session of the assembly wasscheduled to conclude on December 30, the government got itadjourned sine die yesterday. It adopted the path of anescapist to evade questions on burning issues," he said.

The lawmakers were keen to discuss a number of issuespertaining to the interest of the state and its people, butthe government was apparently not prepared to face criticism, said Panda, who is also an MLA.

It is unfortunate that the government chose to skipdiscussion on problems faced by the farmers, many of whom havecommitted suicide recently allegedly due to crop loss causedby pest attack and unseasonal rains, he said.

Issues relating to the youth, who are hit by acuteunemployment, and women would have been discussed by themembers had the government allowed the House to run as per theschedule, Panda said.

"However, the BJD Government must realise that thepeople are not going to allow it to escape. They want anexplanation from the government about its non-performanceduring the last 18 years," he said.

Asserting that BJP would fight for the rights of allsections of the people, Panda said the party would stagedemonstrations near the collectorates in all the districtsfrom December 20 to 22 to step up attack on BJD regime.

The party would also ensure that the huge moneycollected as penalties from erring mines owners are properlyutilised for the benefit and development of all categories ofpeople in the state, the BJP leader said. PTI SKNRG.
