Puducherry, Dec 21 (PTI) JIPMER has drawn up an elaborateplan to collaborate with the Renewable Energy Agency ofPuducherry to commission during the first quarter of 2018, aroof top solar grid at a cost of Rs 7.63 crores.

A release from the Director of Jawaharlal Institute ofPostgraduate Medical Education and Research, S C Parija todaysaid the premier medical college has evolved a plan tocollaborate with the territorial government to commissionduring the first quarter of 2018 a roof top solar grid at acost of Rs 7.63 crores.

The 1500 KW roof top solar grip being set up on theinstitute's premises would help save Rs 1.5 crores in powertariff every year, it said.

The roof tops of all the buildings in the institutewould be covered with solar panels.

The Standing Finance Committee and the REAP havefinalised the project which would go on stream during thefirst quarter of 2018, it added.

JIPMER requires as much as 5 MW power and it is oneof the largest energy consumers in the Union Territory.

Majority of the street lights on the precincts of theinstitute now have LED facility and all the new electricalinstallations including refrigerators and Air Conditioners"are of the highest energy rating and an energy audit is beingplanned across the hospital," the Director said.

He further said, "The institute was also exploring theintroduction of solar concentrative technology-based steamgeneration for its kitchen and laundry, solar-based airconditioning for the Women and Children's hospital. PTI COR ROH.
