OfficialJaipur, Dec 29 (PTI) Close to 44,000 people withdisabilities in the country have been given skill developmenttraining, the Centre's Chief Commissioner for Persons withDisabilities Kamlesh Kumar Pandey said.

He said the national average of certificate issuance topersons with disabilities stands at close to 50 per cent andit is 47 per cent in Rajasthan, which needs to increase.

"Skill development training will be given to 5 lakhpeople with disabilities by 2018 and to 25 lakh by 2022 underSugamya Bharat Abhiyan. So far, 44,000 people have been giventraining," Pandey said.

He was in the city to hold meetings with the stategovernment.

Citing the example of Tamil Nadu, he said most of thedisabled persons have disability certificate and high rate ofcertificate issuance is needed to be achieved in other statestoo.

In northeast states, he said, the percentage of peoplewith disabilities having disability certificate is quite low.

Pandey also reviewed the progress in the implementationof the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act in the state.
