New Delhi, Nov 10 (PTI) A comprehensive marketingstrategy is under formulation to utilise fully the upcomingmodern convention and exhibition centre at Pragati Maidanhere, India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) CMD L C Goyalsaid.

Set up in 1977, ITPO is the nodal trade promotion agencywhich works under the commerce ministry.

As part of the redevelopment plan of Pragati Maidan, aworld class Integrated Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre isunder construction with an estimated cost of Rs 2,254 crore.

The convention center will have a seating capacity ofover 7,000 persons.

"In two years time, it will be ready. We need to marketthe new complex and use it completely. This complex should befully utilised. I will work out a clear marketing strategy andplan to make this space fully utilised from Day 1 - September2019," Goyal told PTI.

He said the organisation may seek help from some privateexperts in formulating the strategy.

"I have started work on this. The new centre would becomea big attraction for global events. I want overseas events tocome to this place," he added.

Due to old and inadequate infrastructure includingconvention centre and parking space, Pragati Maidan is notable to attract overseas events.

Goyal said now they are working to remove all theseinfrastructural bottlenecks to attract global players.

"The new state of the art infrastructure will address allissues. This venue would become unmatched. We will identifyglobal events which can be organised here," he said addingoverseas programmes.

The meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions(MICE) industry is huge business across the globe. It helpscreate jobs and promote tourism sector. PTI RRMR.
