Guwahati, Nov 14 (PTI) Parents and teachers would haveto shoulder greater responsibility for providing childrenbetter education and making them interested in sports, AssamChief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said at a Children's Dayprogramme.
He also urged the children to be cautious while usingsocial and other new media and asked the parents to keep thechildren away from the negative use of social media.
"The teacher's responsibility doesn't end withproviding classroom education only, but they will have to workfor strengthening their mental abilities as well and guidethem to lead a disciplined and ideal life," Sonowal said.
"We must put in joint efforts with dedication andresponsibility for physical, mental and intellectualdevelopment of the children," he said at the functionorganised by the Asom Sishu Sahitya Nyas here.
The chief minister lauded the role of the country'sfirst Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in giving a secured andempowered life to children.
Coinciding with the children's day celebration, ChiefMinister Sonowal also released 10 books published by AsomSishu Sahitya Nyas.
He also inaugurated an art competition, which wasorganized as part of the celebration. PTI DGNN.
