By Lalit K JhaWashington, Nov 14 (PTI) Expressing concern over theviolation of human rights of Muhajirs in Pakistan's port cityof Karachi, an influential Republican Congresswoman hasassured the small community living in the US to raise theirvoice in the Congress and with other officials.

"We can have the witnesses (of human rights violations)come in to (Congressional) hearings, go to different think-tanks," Barbara Comstock told a meeting of World MuhajirCongress in a Virginia suburb of Washington DC on Sunday.

Economic development and education goes hand in hand,Comstock said after leaders of the World Muhajir Congressappraised her about the gross violation of human rights oftheir community in Pakistan and how they are being deprived oftheir economic development and education by the rulingestablishment.

Local Republican leader from Virginia Puneet Ahluwaliasaid this is an important issue for the community.

"We have to make coalition of leadership here in the USand tell the American diplomats in Karachi to meet with theMohajir leaders in Karachi to hear their views," he said.

Members of the Muhajir community living in and aroundWashington DC area have been meeting influential lawmakers andofficials of the Trump Administration to apprise them of theground realities in Karachi.

In October, they had a town hall with Congressman RobWittman, Chairman of important Seapower and Projection ForcesSubcommittee.

Last week, a delegation of World Muhajir Congresspresented a memorandum in this regard to Alice Wells, theActing Assistant Secretary of State for South and CentralAsia. PTI LKJAJR.
