Bhubaneswar/Koraput, Oct 13 (PTI) Three days after thealleged gangrape of a minor girl in Koraput, Odisha StateCommission for Women (SCW) today registered a case to ensurespeedy action, while Congress gave a call for a shut-down inthe district on Monday for failure to nab the culprits.

Chairperson of State Commission for Women LopamudraBuxipatra said besides registering a case, the panel issending a four-member team to Koraput to meet the survivorand discuss progress of the investigation in the matter withpolice officials.

The SCW team would also meet officials of the localadministration to ensure speedy action, she said adding,discussion has already been held with officials of the localadministration and the police on the matter. Immediate stepswill be taken for ensuring faster action.

The team would also look into the requirements of thegirl and see whether proper medical treatment was beingprovided to her, said Buxipatra.

The girl, a student of class IX, has been undergoingtreatment at a hospital in Koraput after she was allegedlygangraped on Tuesday by four men in combat uniform nearKunduli under the Pottangi police station jurisdiction.

While the police has formed five separate teams forinvestigating the case, which has been accorded a "Red Flag"tag, a breakthrough is yet to be made.

Meanwhile, a team of Odisha State Commission forProtection of Child Rights visited the district and went tothe hospital to enquire about the conditino of the girl.

To ensure proper treatment to the girl, a 7-memberinter-disciplinary team of doctors was constituted today,doctors said.

Alleging tardy progress in the investigation into thecase, the district unit of Congress today gave a 7-hour bandhcall in the district on Monday demanding speedy action.

"Even though four days have passed since the barbaricincident took place, police is yet to get any clue in thecase. We demand sincere and speedy investigation into thecase," local MLA and Congress Chief Whip in assembly TaraPrasad Bahinipati told reporters at Jeypore.

"We will observe a bandh from 6 am to 1 pm on Mondayand if the government fails to nab the culprits then theagitation will be intensified and will be spread to otherareas," he added.

Bahinipati also sought to know as to why the medicalreport of the girl has not been made public. PTI CORR SKNJM.
