Chennai, Oct 13 (PTI) Tamil Nadu government today informedthe Madras High Court that treatment for dengue affectedpersons in intensive care unit of private hospitals wascovered under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive HealthInsurance scheme.

This was stated in a counter-affidavit filed by the HealthSecretary and the city Corporation on a PIL filed by advocateA P Suryaprakasam seeking a direction to the government toprovide treatment for dengue patients in the ICUs in privatehospitals and reimburse the cost.

The counter was filed before the first bench comprisingChief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M. Sundar.

It also stated that the government's medical facilitiesthemselves were well equipped to give the required treatmentfor dengue patients, whatsoever was their condition.

The government was taking all efforts to sensitise thepublic about dengue prevention and control.

The health insurance coverage ceiling was Rs. four lakhper family for five years and treatment in ICUs in theempanelled private hospitals for dengue complications likeshock and hemorrhagic syndrome were already covered.

Moreover, there were adequate infrastructural and otherfacilities in government medical hospitals and no one was sentback without proper diagnosis and treatment, the counter said.

It listed the elaborate arrangements made to eradicatemosquitoes and mosquito-borne diseases. PTI CORRVS.
