Mumbai, Oct 13 (PTI) The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) today approached the Konkan divisional commissioner opposing the move by some of its corporators to register themselves as a separate unit.
As per the post election procedure, every party has to register itself as a group with a list of corporators with the divisional commissioner.
MNS won seven seats in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election held in February. The party along with the elected corporators was registered with the Konkan divisional commissioner.
Sources in MNS as well as BJP MP Kirit Somaiyya claimed that six MNS corporators have decided to defect from MNS and form a separate group to support ruling Shiv Sena.
This would strengthen Shiv Sena's position in BMC, which has been under pressure from BJP -— the party having few corporators less than the ruling party.
MNS general secretary Shirish Sawant today wrote a letter to Konkan divisional commissioner urging to give MNS a hearing before taking any decision on the six corporators' letter.
Sawant has also written a letter to anti-corruption bureau requesting an investigation of the six corporators' assets and its source.
He has claimed that the six corporators have been lured with promises; hence a thorough investigation should be carried out, Sawant said in his letter. PTI ND RMT .
