Mumbai, Oct 13 (PTI) Benchmark Nifty extended its rallyby 71.05 points to end at a fresh closing high of 10,167today, lifted by positive economic data and buying in banks,finance, metal and realty counters.
Positive cues from the Asian market also boostedsentiment.
Telecom stocks rallied after Bharti Airtel agreed to takeover Tata group's mobile business.
The NSE 50-share Nifty closed at record 10,167.45,gaining 71.05 points, or 0.70 per cent. It also registered anall-time intra-day high of 10,191.90.
Overseas, most European shares were trading higher.
Most Asian stocks ended higher. Investors were cautiousahead of US economic data as well as the Chinese CommunistParty congress next week.
Meanwhile, the broader midcap and smallcap shares tradedlacklustre.
Major index gainers were Bharti Airtel, Bharti Infratel,Tata Steel, Kotak Bank and Ultratech Cement.
Losers were Gail, Zee, Dr Reddy's, M&M and Sun Pharma.
The market breadth, indicating the overall health of themarket, was in favour of losers. On the NSE, 930 stocksdeclined, 787 advanced and 82 remained unchanged.
Total securities that hit their price bands were 133.
Turnover in the cash segment rose to Rs 29,800.05 crorefrom Rs 27,360.23 crore yesterday.
A total of 14,076.28 lakh shares changed hands in9,672,385 trades. The market capitalisation of listed firmson the NSE stood at Rs 1,36,74,614 crore. PTI RDABM.
