Coimbatore, Oct 22 (PTI) Leading junior players will viefor honours in the Dr N Mahalingam 28th National Under-17 Openand Girls Chess Championship beginning here from October 24.

Winners in the nine-day tournament would qualify torepresent India both in the World and Commonwealth Chesschampionships.

So far 100 boys and 70 girls have registered to take partin the tournament, being conducted at Kumaraguru Collegeof Technology and the number was likely to cross the 200 mark,a press release from the college today said.

A total prize money of Rs 2.50 lakh would be on offer,the release said. PTI NVMSS.
