Raipur, Jan 14 (PTI) Security forces averted a majormishap by recovering three powerful improvised explosivedevices (IEDs), laid by naxals, in the insurgency-hitKondagaon district in Chhattisgarh today, police said.

The explosives, each weighing five kgs, were unearthedby a joint team of Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) and districtforce between Badko and Aadnar villages under Bayanar policestation limits, where road construction is underway, KondagaonAdditional Superintendent of Police Maheshwar Nag told PTI.

The construction of the road is going on betweenBhatpal and Mardapal under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna(PMGSY) in the region, located around 250 kms away from here.

"Acting on a tip-off, the security forces, engaged inproviding security to the construction works, launched acombing operation between Badko and Aadnar on the route andspotted three IEDs- two pipe bombs and a tiffin bomb- avertinga major mishap," Nag said.

The bomb disposal squad immediately destroyed theexplosives, he said.

"The Maoists fear that construction of the road willspeed up the movement of security forces and development worksin the region that will ultimately uproot them. Therefore theyplanted IEDs in a bid to harm the security personnel," theofficer said. PTI TKPNP.
