disqualificationNew Delhi, Jan 19 (PTI)Lauding the Election Commission'sreported recommendation to the president for disqualificationof 20 AAP MLAs for allegedly holding office of profit, DelhiBJP today said it is a "moral defeat" for Chief MinisterArvind Kejriwal and he should resign.

Regretting that the EC allowed "undue" adjournments ofhearings of AAP MLAs, which "dearly cost" the people, DelhiBJP chief Manoj Tiwari said the party unit "stands preparedfor elections any moment".

"We welcome the EC decision disqualifying 20 AAP MLAs.

Arvind Kejriwal should take responsibility for moral defeatand resign," he said.

Tiwari also said taking advantage of the EC's longadjournments of hearing in the matter, these MLAs have notonly "looted and cheated" the people of Delhi but also denieddevelopment.

"Taking advantage of this delay, the AAP has succeeded insending three persons to the Rajya Sabha and in the processhas also sullied the image of the Upper House of Parliament,"he said.

The Election Commission is learnt to have recommended tothe President the disqualification of 20 AAP MLAs forallegedly holding office of profit.

In its opinion sent to President Ram Nath Kovind, the ECsaid by being parliamentary secretaries, they held office ofprofit and were liable to be disqualified as members of theDelhi Assembly, highly-placed sources said.

The President is bound to go by the recommendation of theCommission. In cases where petitions are made seekingdisqualification of lawmakers, the president sends a referenceto the EC which decides on the case by sending back itsopinion. PTI VIT TDSDIP.
