The quality of Indian juniors would be put to test again as the fourth Indian Junior Open Squash Championship is set for start at the Indian Squash Academy courts from Monday. The five-day event, sanctioned by the World Squash Federation as a World Junior circuit Tier-3 event, by the Asian Squash Federation as an Asian Squash Super Series Gold event and an SRFI 4 Star Event, has recorded a record number of number of 410 entries France, Hong Kong, Singapore, Iran, Iraq, Nepal and hosts India.
This event is organized by the SRFI with support from the TNSRA and the Indian Squash Academy and will have competitions in 10 categories (under-11, 13, 15, 17 and 19 for both boys and girls).If their domination in the first half was not enough, Cameroon continued to torment the Nepalese even more after the change of ends, scoring three times to leave the Himalayan nation devastated.
Asian Junior champions Anaka Alankamony (GU19) and Kush Kumar (BU19) have been given top billing while Enora Villard from France and Ma Tsz Hei from Hong Kong are seeded to meet Anaka and Kush in their respective finals.
For the first time in a tournament, Indians can boast of eight top-seeded players--Veer Chotrani (Bu11), Chaitanya Shah (Bu13), Ranjit Singh (Bu15), Kush Kumar (Bu19), Megha Bhatia (Gu11), Nikita Joshi (Gu13), Lakshya Ragvendran (Gu17) & Anaka Alankamony (Gu19).
