Ankita rallies to outwit Barbara

Ankita Raina defeated Barbara Bonic of Serbia in 6-2, 7-6 (3) straight sets to reach yet another ITF final — her third this year. Though she dropped her opening two service game, Ankita   matched the Serbian, stroke for stroke to break back immediately and level the scores and thereafter take control of the game and the match.

In the doubles final, second seeds  Natasha Palha and Prarthana Thombre got the better of top seeds Ankita Raina and Rushmi Chakravarthy 5-7, 6-3, 10-6. They earned 12 WTA points. Venkatasubramaniam, vice president, Madras Gymkhana Club, gave away the prizes

Results - Semifinals: Ankita Raina (Ind) bt Barbara Bonic (Srb) 6-2, 7-6; Natasha Palha (Ind) bt  Angelique Svinos (Aus) 6-2,  6-2; Doubles final: Natasha Palha/ Prarthana Thombre bt Ankita Raina/Rushmi Chakravarthy 5-7, 6-3, 10-6.

Karnataka boys defeated Kerala 10-1 in the 3rd Hockey India South Zone Sub Junior tournament.
