Vijay Overcomes Girish to Claim Snooker Crown

CHENNAI: Vijay Nichani beat Girish 5-2 in the final of the Sheth Shashikanth Memorial open snooker tournament, organised by TNBSA.

Results: Final: Vijay Nichani bt Girish (5-2) 5-107 (43), 22-98, 98-41 (47), 58-59, 67-45, 47-67 72-9 (40).

Semifinals: Girish bt Faizal Khan 5-3; Vijay bt Varun Kumar 5-1.

Athletes Feted

Athletes G Gayathry, K Premkumar and P Deepika of St. Joseph’s Sports Academy, who had represented Tamil Nadu in the 35th National Games at Kerala and clinched 5 medals, were felicitated by St Joseph’s group of institutions for their feat.

Gayathry, who got a gold in 100m hurdles and silver in 4x100m relay, was presented with a cash award of Rs 25,000.

In 100m hurdles, Gayathry clocked 13.66s to create meet record. Premkumar, who bagged a  silver medal in long jump, was presented Rs 15000. Deepika received Rs 10,000 for her silver and bronze medals.
