Indian Boxers Come to the Four

 CHENNAI: Indian boxers finished their impressive campaign with four gold, one silver and two bronze to claim the team championship in the final day of the Doha International tournament on Saturday.

Commonwealth Games silver medallist L Devendro Singh (49kg) got the better of Philippines’ Aldren More 3-0. Shiva Thapa (56kg) edged Egypt’s HYM Abdelaal 2-1. Manish Kaushik beat Morocco’s Rabi Hamza 3-0 in the lightweight decider. In the light welterweight category, Manoj Kumar blanked Magliquian Nicole of Philippines 3-0. Meanwhile, Gaurav Bidhuri (52 kg) fell just short in the final against Tunisia’s Bouali Montassar, losing 1-2.

Three Cheers

Taipei: Indian women rounded off a commendable performance at the AIBA Women’s Junior World Championships, clinching three gold and two silver medals. Savita (50kg), Mandeep Sandhu (52kg) and Sakshi (54kg) struck gold while Soniya (48kg) and Niharika Gonella (70kg) settled for silver medals.
