Warner Recalled, Clarke Returns in ODI Squad

David Warner has been recalled and Michael Clarke returns as captain of Australia's limited-overs team for the five-match ODI series against England starting Jan. 12.

Australia selectors announced the 14-man squad on Tuesday, three days before the test team attempts to sweep with Ashes series in the fifth test in Sydney.

Warner, who was dropped from the ODI squad due to poor form ahead of the October tour to India, regained his place due to his weight of runs in the test series and domestic cricket.

"David Warner has won back his place in the Australia ODI squad with his outstanding recent form," chief selector John Inverarity said.

Clarke, Shaun Marsh and paceman James Pattinson, who were all unavailable for the India tour due to injuries, have been recalled.

Pattinson made a successful return with the Melbourne Renegades in a domestic Twenty20 win over Brisbane Heat on Monday night, taking 3-36 off his four overs, and should form an explosive combination with test paceman Mitchell Johnson — the standout bowler during the India series and during Australia's four recent test wins against England.

Opener Warner returns at the expense of Phil Hughes, while Adam Voges, Moises Henriques and Callum Ferguson also lost their spots in the squad. George Bailey, who led the ODI team in Clarke's absence, is vice-captain for the England series.

Australia squad: Michael Clarke (captain), George Bailey (vice-captain), Nathan Coulter-Nile, Xavier Doherty, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, Brad Haddin, Mitchell Johnson, Shaun Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Clint McKay, James Pattinson, David Warner, Shane Watson.
