CHENNAI: Off-spinner Shoaib Md Khan’s seven wicket-haul helped Nelson SC restrict Young Stars to 274 in their first essay, on the opening day of the senior division TNCA Elite Group match at SSN College Grounds, here on Monday. In reply, at stumps, Nelson were 0/1.In another match at Gurunanak College, Vijay CC’s S Abishiek smacked a belligerent 102 and KB Arun Karthick played second fiddle with 94 not out to boost their sides’ total to 297 for 5. Left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore was the only effective bowler for Grand Slam as he snapped three wickets.

TN badminton league in March

Six teams will vie for top honours in the Tamil Nadu Badminton League to be held at AMPA Skywalk, Chennai from March 1-4.Jhaver Smashers, Lanson Kings, Falcon Feathers, Chennai Shuttle Kings, Jade Force and Flying Gravity are the six teams that bid successfully for a franchise. The cost of owning a team is Rs 5 lakh. 

“Six teams have been divided into two groups of three each. Top two from each group will move into semifinals. Each round will have five matches (men singles, men doubles, women singles, junior boys doubles and mixed doubles). “Matches will be played under best of three games (15-point format),’’ said A Sudarsan, tournament director, on Monday. 

“Teams can pick from the 130 registered players from the 24 districts in Tamil Nadu. The cap for a team is Rs 2 lakh. The minimum amount for which a player can be bought is Rs 5,000 and the maximum limit is Rs 30,000,’’ added Sudarsan, insisting that the league has been approved by the Tamil Nadu Badminton Association. The players auction will be held on Wednesday. Total prize money is `7 lakh, the winners purse is `3 lakh while the runner-up will be awarded Rs 2 lakh and the semifinalists will receive a lakh each.
