CHENNAI: Ace India paddler A Sharath Kamal has joined hands with Madras Seva Sadan to impart table tennis coaching to underprivileged children. The camp, which began on Monday, will go on for three weeks and then there would be regular training throughout the year from June. “My German club, Borussia Dusseldorf wanted to do a social project in India and are financing it for the first year, including setting up premises, equipment and coach. From the second year onwards, I need to find a sponsor,” said Sharath.
“Volunteers Rinku Mecheri and Sanju suggested I do this project with Madras Seva Sadan trust, as the children there are underprivileged and this could give them an opportunity in life through sport. We started the project on Monday with a three-week summer camp and will provide tables, bats, balls and a coach for one and half hours everyday. Once schools start in June, coaching will be given twice a week and for the remaining three days, the school physical director will supervise classes,” he added.

ISPA athletics camp
IAAF Level I coach R Natarajan will organise the 16th edition of his India Sports Promotion Academy (ISPA) from April 26 to May 21 at SDAT grounds. This is the fourth year that SDAT will jointly hold the camp for both children and professional athletes.
Noted coaches N Annavi and KS Nizammudin will also train the players. Yoga expert Vasanthi will also help athletes learn how to combat fatigue.

Ugly scenes in CFA league
Chennai City FC’s last Senior Division game against MSU in the St Joseph’s-CFA Senior and First Division league on Monday turned ugly as MSU’s Koko was seen slapping Chennai’s Darren Caldeira after the game. However, referee Jamal Mohamed failed to notice the incident. Sparks were flying from both teams and Jamal awarded a yellow card to Koko for using foul language. However, the linesman who claimed to have spotted the incident, along with the referee, will write a report to Chennai Football Association.
CCFC are already in trouble after similar instances against Hindustan Eagles last Tuesday. Midfielder Zakeer Mundampara was shown a straight red for assaulting referee J Velayutham, along with Wayne Vaz and striker Joseph Ikechuku. No action has been taken against the three yet.
Results: Senior Division: Chennai City FC 4-2 MSU.
First Division: Chennai City Police 0-0 FCI.
