Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has decided to allot funds to prevent road accidents in the country. The allocation depends on the number of vehicles.

Ministers and officials of all states participated in a workshop on road safety in New Delhi on Thursday organized by the ministry, transport officials said.

The centre directed the states to set up a non-lapsable road safety fund which will be used for various activities like procurement and deployment of ambulance, cranes, road safety awareness campaigns and setting up institute of driving training & research.

The states were also told to set up state-level and district-level road safety councils. The central road transport officials wanted a report on the institutional mechanism and their action plans of states on road safety.
