TRS Monday observed the birthanniversary of the late Telangana ideologue K Jayashankartoday.
Speaking at a function at the party office here, TRSpresident K Chandrasekhar Rao paid rich tributes toJayashankar.
The TRS president, who has been saying that he hadreceived "signals" from the Centre about the imminentformation of separate Telangana state, stated today that hewas maintaining `a strategic silence' over the statehoodagitation.
Jayashankar, an academician, had vigorously campaignedfor the separate state during his lifetime.
Maintaining that Centre had given him an assurance aboutformation of the state after the Vice Presidential poll, theTRS president had said yesterday that if the assurance was notfulfilled, the agitation would be stepped up.
"The Prime Minister had asked us to let peacefulatmosphere prevail (in Andhra Pradesh) for the Centre to takea decision. So, we are waiting patiently. We got an assuranceover formation of Telangana after the Vice Presidential poll.
If they give Telangana, fine. Otherwise, we will continuefighting for it," he said, addressing a gathering at Nizamabadyesterday.
