The marriage of a 17-year-old girl was stopped by the officials of the Woman and Child Welfare Department (WCWD) with the help of police at Kanaka Durga temple on the Indrakeeladri on Sunday.
The parents of the girl who hail from Tanuku in West Godavari district, tried to perform the marriage of their daughter with Bangaru Phani Bhushan Rao (21) of Nunna village though she is a minor. WCWD project director V Swarupa Rani said they counselled the parents of the boy and the girl. An undertaking was taken from the girl’s parents that her marriage would not be performed till she became a major.
No case was registered in this connection, she said.
