Culture on a platter ahead of World Telugu Conference

Ctizens will soon be served Telugu culture on a platter on the busy streets of Tirupati, which is being decked up with artworks  on the eve of the 4th World Telugu Conference.

A 15-member team of the Jahwarlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University, Hyderabad, has bagged a contract of `28 lakh to present Telugu culture through art at 28 locations in the town.Though the team landed here a week ago, they could not start their work due to heavy rain. The artists got into action at Jyothirao Phule circle on the University Road on Friday.

The same team painted at 11 locations in Hyderabad ahead of the bio-diversity meet (CoP) in October.Speaking to Express, MD Fakruddin, leader of the team, said Cheriyal scroll painting, a famous art in Warangal district, Kondapalli toys,  Nirmal paintings, Srikalahasthi Kalamkari art etc will be depicted on the walls here. The contract stipulates that they need to finish the work before December 25, he said.

“Despite the delay due to rain, we are confident of meeting the deadline. We are using weather-proof paints which need only half an hour to dry up. Even heavy rain cannot damage the quality once they dry up,” he said.

“We chose Cheriyal paintings for Jyothirao Phule circle as it looks nice on long walls,” Fakruddin said. “Working for big events like the CoP and WTC give us confidence and satisfaction. Our work in Hyderabad gave us recognisation from different quarters,” said Sivakumar, another artist in the team
