Jaganmohan Reddy turns 40 in jail

YSR Congress party leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy Friday celebrated his 40th birthday in Chanchalguda Central Jail here along with his family members.

Jaganmohan Reddy's mother Y.S. Vijayamma, wife Bharathi and two daughters called on him in the jail. They brought with them a cake, which the MP cut in their presence to mark the occasion.

Jagan, as the young businessman politician is popularly known, is in jail since his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in May this year in disproportionate assets case.

A large number of YSR Congress party workers gathered outside the jail. Party leader H.A. Rahman cut a cake to celebrate Jagan's birthday.

The birthday was also celebrated by Jagan's supporters in Hyderabad and other parts of the state.

At the party headquarters here, the party leaders also launched a signature campaign in support of Jagan. Alleging that Jagan is a victim of a conspiracy by Congress and Telugu Desam Party, the YSR party plans to collect a crore signatures to send the same to the president of India.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court is scheduled to pronounce Monday its orders on Jagan's bail petition.

According to the CBI, Jagan entered into a criminal conspiracy with his father and then chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to show undue favours to individuals and companies which invested in his companies.

The high court had last year ordered a CBI probe on a petition filed by Shankar Rao, a leader of Congress party.

Following his father's death in a helicopter crash in September 2009, Jagan was seen as his successor.

With the central leadership of Congress party ignoring him, he soon parted ways to float a new party. He quit his Lok Sabha seat and was re-elected from Kadapa by a record margin of over 500,000 votes in May last year.
