Rosaiah releases 15 new Telugu fonts

Commemorating the Telugu icons, the state government, in association with Silicon Andhra, released 15 new unicode compatible fonts for use by Telugu people on the internet, at the second International Telugu Internet Convention 2012 inaugurated at GITAM University here on Friday.

Tamil Nadu governor K Rosaiah released the fonts and 10 other tools to promote usage of Telugu on the Net.

Of the 15 fonts, nine sponsored by the state government, were named after Emperor Sri Krishnadevaraya and his ‘Ashtadiggajas’ comprising eight scholarly poets who authored the epic poem ‘Bhuvanavijayam’.

Six other fonts, developed with the sponsorship of Silicon Andhra, were named after five persons and an organisation which strove for development of Telugu language like NT Rama Rao, Suravaram Pratapa Reddy, Gurajada Appa Rao, Gidugu Ramamurthy, Mandali Venkata Krishna Rao and NATS (North America Telugu Society).

Rosaiah appreciated the efforts of the information technology department for taking the initiative to preserve Telugu for the future generations in a novel manner.
