Officials on their toes for Suu Kyi’s visit

The district administration is on its toes in making arrangements for the scheduled visit of Myanmar’s opposition leader and Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi to Madakasira Assembly constituency in Anantapur district on November 17.

The Burmese leader will visit the constituency to study the socio-economic transformation of people living in rual areas brought by various government welfare schemes.

In view of Suu Kyi’s visit, collector V Durga Das has asked the officials to update all the data related to socioecomic indicators including all the details pertaining to the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGREGS).

The Myanmar opposition leader will visit the house of Muddakka, a Self Help Group (SHG) leader of Papasanipalle village during her visit on November 17.

According to the Suu Kyi’s itinerary released by the district public relation department here on Thursday, the chairperson of National League for Democracy (NLD) will interact with the family members to study the impact on the socio-economic condition of the Muddakka’s family after she joined a SHG.

Later, Suu Kyi will interact with the SHG women and the youth from the village at Zilla Parishad High School.

A temporary helipad has also been set up at Kothulagutta village, where the Burmese leader will land with Union minister for rural development Jairam Ramesh and chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on November 17.

She will go round an exhibition organised by the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) at the village.

Chief secretary Minnie Mathew will give a power point presentation to the visiting Burmese leader on the rural development in the state and welfare schemes introduced by the Union and state governments.

Later, Suu Kyi will visit orchards at Govindapuram village and interact with the people working at various projects under the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGREGS) in the same village.
