‘CBI invoked IPC to make case against Ali Khan bigger’

The special court for CBI cases on Monday posted the arguments over the bail petition filed by K Mehfuz Ali Khan, an accused in the Obulapuram illegal mining case and personal assistant to former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, to February 20.

The case was posted to further date as the CBI sought more time to put forward its arguments.

Ali Khan’s counsel informed the court that criminal breach of trust cannot be applicable to his client as he is not the owner of the property.

He said there were specific laws under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act and all the alleged offences of the accused were covered under it. He said the investigating agency had registered cases under IPC sections to make it a bigger case.

With the CBI seeking more time to put forward its arguments, the matter was posted to February 20.
