Error in ballot paper halts polls in Warangal district

District collector G Kishan told newsmen here on Saturday that the elections to the post of sarpanch in Madagudi village and to the post of third ward member in Seerolu village were postponed after certain errors were found in the ballot papers. In Madagudi village in Kothaguda mandal, a sarpanch post-aspirant Yapa Bhadramma had withdrawn from the contest but her name was included in the ballot paper. In Seerolu village in Kuravi mandal, the 3rd ward member-post contestants’ symbols were printed worngly on the ballot paper. Hence, the elections to these two posts in the two villages were postponed. New polling dates would be announced by the State Election Commission, the collector said. Meanwhile, the second phase of panchayat elections in the Mahabubabad and Narsampet divisions went off peacefully on Saturday. An average of 88.43 poll percentage poling was registered in the two divisions. The collector observed the election process of various gram panchayats through the webcasting system. The collector said that special focus has been put on 152 polling centres, which were identified as sensitive and hypersensitive. He also said that additional forces had been deployed in the identified hypersensitive and sensitive areas for the smooth conduct of the panchayat polls.
