High command having a rethink on Telangana, says Kavuri

A day after chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy had told some of his cabinet colleagues from Seemandhra that the Telangana process might be delayed with the status of Hyderabad became a puzzle to the AICC leadership, Union minister of textiles Kavuri Sambasiva Rao too made a similar statement on Friday.

The Congress veteran from Seemandhra exuded confidence that the T-note might not be presented before the Union cabinet without addressing the apprehensions of the people of Seemandhra on contentious issues such as the status of Hyderabad and sharing of river waters. He also claimed that his party leadership was rethinking on its Telangana decision.

“Seemandhra people are not ready to forgo their rights on Hyderabad city, which has emerged as a large metropolis by virtue of it being the capital of United AP,” he said.

Speaking to mediapersons in Delhi on Friday, Rao said the Congress high command took note of the ongoing agitation in Seemandhra and was likely to make a statement soon to placate the agitated minds of the  people of Seemandhra. The statement could be issued soon after AICC supremo Sonia Gandhi returned to Delhi from abroad, he indicated.

“ The AK Antony Committee is willing to visit Hyderabad to know the apprehensions of the people of Seemandhra. We have put forward a strong argument in favour of United AP before the Antony Committee as well as our party high command. We (Seemandhra Congress leaders) will decide our future course as per the wishes of the people of our region,” he said.
