Adilabad forts in a state of disrepair

The negligence of the government has left several monuments of historical importance in the district in a poor state. The monuments  including Bathisgarh Fort, Shyamgarh Fort, Dharmasagar Fort and others, built by king Nimma Naidu in the 16th century, have now become dens of illegal activities and are occupied by unauthorised realtors.

Though the Central government has sanctioned Rs 9.43 crore in 2011-12 for the development of tourism sector in the district, no work has been initiated by the district officials till date. Locals alleged that though department officials visited the spot and promised to start the work soon, nothing has materialised yet.

District tourism officer Ravi Kumar said out of the total amount of Rs 9.43 crore, the state government allotted Rs 1.20 crore to Bathisgarh Fort, Rs 47.81 lakh to Shyamgarh Fort and Rs 72.81 lakh to Dharmasagar Fort. Other projects like the Kawal Sanctuary works are in the last stage and some others are in progress.

As part of the programme, facilities at waterfall sites at Kuntala and Potchera would be developed. Amenities will be provided at Bathisgarh and Shyamgarh forts in Nirmal and Kadem reservoir surroundings.
