AP: Five Workers Hurt Due to Reactor Blast at a Chemical Factory

Five workers suffered minor injuries today, after a chemical reactor exploded due to heavy pressure at Vegesna Laboratories Pvt Ltd, a bulk drug unit at Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City, located at Parawada area in the district, official sources said.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Five workers suffered minor injuries today, after a chemical reactor exploded due to heavy pressure at Vegesna Laboratories Pvt Ltd, a bulk drug unit at Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City, located at Parawada area in the district, official sources said.

This is the second such incident that occurred at Pharma City within a span of ten days.

According to official sources, the incident took place today morning and fortunately no causalities were reported.

Power supply to the unit was stopped immediately to minimise the damage.

The injured workers were admitted to a hospital at Lankalapalem and their situation is reported to be stable.

The local MLA Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy visited the spot and registered a case after which a probe has begun.

Meanwhile, locals in and around the area has demanded closure of all dangerous units at Pharma City.

Recently ten workers suffered injuries after an ammonia compressor at one of the units of Glochem Industries Ltd at Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City exploded on June 28.
