MACHILIPATNAM: Machilipatnam First Additional District Judge MR Seshagiri Rao sentenced Y Nagendra, who sexually abused a minor girl in Kanchikacharla in January this year, to three years imprisonment and a fine of `5,000 under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) Tuesday.
According to Krishna district superintendent of police (SP) J Prabhakara Rao, this was the first case registered in Krishna district after the implementation of POCSO Act. It has been investigated in six months.
Y Nagendra, a resident of Kanchikacharla village and mandal, picked up the girl from school and sexually abused her, after which a case was registered in Kanchikacherla police station. Nandigama (rural) circle inspector Rama Kumar launched investigation and arrested Nagendra and produced him in the court. After six months of inquiry, Machilipatnam First Additional District Judge MR Seshagiri Rao convicted Nagendra and awarded him three-year imprisonment along with a fine of `5,000.
