VMC Staff Demand Payment of Salaries

VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Employees Union (VMCEU) general secretary Asula Ranganayakulu has demanded that the civic body  immediately pay the wages of workers and employees. He also demanded that the government provide the workers with housing facilities, for they are unable to afford the rents.

The union members staged a dharna at VMC office here Tuesday where Asula Ranganayakulu lamented that the lives of the workers became miserable as the corporation did not pay their salaries since April. The state government had promised to hike the wages of all workers in municipal corporations and municipalities, in a phased manner, but only hiked the salaries of workers in sanitation department by `1,600, he said.

AITUC city vice-president Reddipalli Durga Rao, VMCEU president Jakki James and member D Kumar also participated in the dharna.
