5 Arrested for Illegal Kidney Sale Bid, Kingpin Absconding

VIJAYAWADA: The Satyanarayanapuram police arrested five people including two women in connection with a kidney selling case here Tuesday. The accused were identified as Miriyala Kranthi Durga Prasad, B Balaji Singh, B Prudhviraj Singh, M Naga Sai Durga and G Uma Devi. While Balaji Singh hailed from Jangareddygudem of West Godavari district, all the others were residents of Vijayawada.

Presenting the accused before the media, Vijayawada central zone incharge ACP G Rama Krishna said that Balaji Singh was acting as an agent for one Sai of Kukatpally in Hyderabad, the main accused and kingpin of the racket. He helped Sai by luring innocent people to sell their kidneys for money.

Balaji Singh had recently lured his friend Miriyala Kranthi Durga Prasad,  a mechanic at Satyanarayanapuram in the city, to sell his kidney for `2 lakh to a person in Hyderabad.Balaji Singh arranged required documents affirming Durga Prasad’s eligibility for organ donation and his family’s consent, by forging the signatures and preparing fake stamps of Vijayawada Urban tahsildar, revenue divisional officer (RDO) and deputy superintendent of police. When he sought the help of his nephew Prudhviraj Singh in this regard, the latter roped in Vijayadurga Rubber Stamps Shop owner G Umadevi to prepare the fake rubber stamps.

Later, Durga Prasad submitted the forged documents at Satya Kidney Centre in Hyderabad expressing his readiness for kidney donation. The fraud came to light on July 19 when Vijayawada urban tahsildar R Siva Rao had smelled something fishy after finding some discrepancies in the application form and tried to know whether Durga Prasad was a genuine donor and whether his family agreed for his kidney donation.

The tahsildhar also found that the signatures and stamps on the application were fake and alerted the Satyanarayanapuram police. Following this the cops arrested the accused.

“We have arrested the accused and registered cases under IPC sections 468 (Forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (Using a forged document or electronic record as genuine) and 120B (Punishment of criminal conspiracy),” said Central zone incharge ACP. However, the main accused Sai is still absconding. A manhunt has been launched for him.
