VIZIANAGARAM: After a preliminary inquiry, the principal and the watchwoman of the Government Residential School and Junior College for Girls at Venugopalapuram in Nellimerla mandal of Vizianagaram district, have been placed under suspension on charges of negligence.
The orders were issued Tuesday as the authorities failed to trace the intruder who entered the girls’ hostel through a window and tried to rape some students, who were asleep, on the night of Sept 4. Fortunately, some girls raised the alarm and alerted the others. The accused, however, fled the spot. The incident came to light when the parents of the students lodged a police complaint on Sept 7. ZP chairperson Sobha Swathi Rani visited the hostel on Sept 8 and ordered an inquiry into the incident.
After a preliminary inquiry, the watchwoman, who was sleeping at the time of the incident, was suspended by the zonal officer, Visakhapatnam, while the principal was suspended by the Social Welfare authorities, Hyderabad, for delay in taking immediate action.
