Bapu is Padma Vibhushan Nominee

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh government has nominated noted film director Bapu, alias Sattiraju Lakshminarayana, who died recently, for the coveted Padma Vibhushan award, posthumously.

According to sources, the State government on Sunday recommended to the Centre to that effect in recognition of Bapu’s services to Indian cinema. Bapu was awarded the Padma Shri for his contribution to cinema in 2013.

Sources further disclosed that the State government has also decided to nominate Nori Dattatreyudu, noted oncologist, and D Nageswar Reddy, gastroenterologist, for Padma Vibhushan.

“Carnatic vocalist Nedunuri Krishna Murthy, Sanskrit scholar Chaganti Koteswara Rao and Lok Sabha member and veteran film actor Maganti Murali Mohan have been nominated for Padma Bhusan awards,” source added.
