Inter-State Robber Arrested, Booty Seized

ELURU: The police have arrested an inter-state robber Mahesh Manikanta (36), and recovered 54 sovereigns of gold, 2 kg silver and `2 lakh in cash from him here Tuesday. However, two of his associates - Guvvala Pandi (30) of Maharashtra and Janapala Srinu (32) of Chebrolu - are at large.

Mahesh Manikanta belongs to Tiruvanandanagar in Tamil Nadu. The three accused became friends while serving a jail term at Central Prison in Rajahmundry. After their release, they started indulging in thefts and they targetted locked houses. They were involved in about 30 cases in West Godavari district.

Tadepalligudem and Eluru crime inspectors Deva Kumar and Madhubabu made the arrest.

8-Member Gang Held

In another case, the police busted an eight-member gang and recovered three bicycles, eight mobile phones and `2,000 in cash. Eluru Crime Station inspector BJ Raju, assistant SI Rizwan, Gopi and Chebrolu inspector Chandrasekhar nabbed them at Gundugolanu Centre Wednesday.

The accused were identified as lorry drivers K Esu (25) of P Satyanarayana, Ch Rajesh (32) of Chataparru village, YL Narayana (35) of Kaikaram, MBA student K Nagarjuna (27), security guard V Vinayak (25) of Eluru city, AV Kumar (26) of Tangellamudi and auto driver YS Kumar (32) of Gundugolanu village.
