HPCL Visakh Refinery Ups Emergency Preparedness with New Fire Tenders

VISAKHAPATNAM As part of the efforts to improve and upgrade its emergency preparedness, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) Visakh Refinery has procured two new Foam Tenders based on Volvo chassis and body built by Brijbasi at a cost of `3 crore.

The new tenders were formally inaugurated and inducted in the Fire Fighting vehicle fleet of HPCL-Visakh Refinery by executive director of HPCL Visakh Refinery VVR Narasimham.

On the occasion, Narasimham, along with other senior officers, witnessed a demonstration of various firefighting facilities and features of foam tenders. The executive director had first-hand experience of  various controls and features of the vehicles in the driver’s cabin along with the technical representative of Volvo.

 Speaking at the event, Narasimham said that the Corporation always believes in continual improvement and upgrading of their emergency preparedness and fire fighting facilities as well as safety management systems to emerge the best in the industry at any point of time.

In HPCL-Visakh Refinery, at any given time, 3-5 lakh metric ton of crude and petroleum products are stored. Therefore, hazard control and safety management always remains a prime concern of the refinery.

HPCL Visakh Refinery is well-equipped with emergency preparedness and fire fighting facilities. The refinery has 10 fire-tenders at Visakh Refinery which includes five foam tenders, one DCP tender, one equipment truck, one water tender and two foam nurser trucks to handle fire emergencies. The mobile firefighting vehicles are very useful to the neighboring industries as well as establishments in case of an emergency.
