Sreeram Now Wants to Become a Film Music Composer

VIJAYAWADA: After rendering more than 300 songs in Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and Bengali in the last eight years and becoming the first South Indian to win the Indian Idol title in 2010 and acting in some films too, 27-year-old M Sreeramchandra (Sreeram of short) now wants to become a film music composer.

He expressed his desire during a brief interaction with Express on the sidelines of a live performance here on Saturday.

Ramachandra, who is a resident of Hyderabad and hails from Visakhapatnam, said that the title of Indian Idol had changed his life and added that it had brought him numerous offers from top Bollywood music directors like Himesh Reshammiya and Pritam.

He said that he had started performing stage shows without any professional training at the age of eight. Being passionate about music, he had started learning Carnatic music while studying in B Tech first year and continued for five years. Later, he had opted singing as his  career, he added.

Sreeram said that after bagging the Indian Idol title, he had signed a contract with Yash Raj Films. He said that his song ‘Rehnuma’ from his album ‘Rehnuma’ had been included in the Hollywood movie The Chronicles of Narnia: the Voyage of the Dawn Treader  and added that the song ‘Balma’ in ‘Khiladi 786’  had become a hit song.

Sreeram had become one of the most preferred voices in Bollywood in a short time.

Excerpts from the interview

Express: What are the current projects you’re working on?

Sreeram: Now, I am busy with a handful of projects in Tollywood and Bollywood. In Tollywood, I am working with Mickey J Meyer in his two big projects and in Bollywood, I shared my voice in upcoming projects ‘Hero’, ‘Welcome To’ and Salman Khan’s ‘Bhajarangi Bhaijan’. I have four songs in Bengali and am also learning Hindustani music in Mumbai during my break time.

Express: We found a good actor in you with ‘Adishankara Jagadguru’ and ‘Preema Geema Janta Nai’. Do you have any new films on hand?

Sreeram: At present, I am busy with my singing projects and am waiting for a good script. Recently, I missed a role in the film S/O Satyamurthy. I am now waiting for a promised offer from Trivikram Sir.

Express: What are you dream projects?

Sreeram: Though I love Tollywood, since my childhood I have had a special interest in Bollywood. I want to work with all the top music directors over there. And, I want to sing at least one song for AR Rehman.
