168 child labourers identified in Srikakulam

SRIKAKULAM: The exercise of mapping the neglected children under the ‘Operation Muskaan-2’ which ended recently has identified 246 kids, the officials have said.

A team comprising police officials, representatives of integrated child protection scheme and Sarva Siksha Abhiyan officers started the exercise on July 1 and finished it on July 30 during which 38 mandals across the district were covered.

District child protection officer KV Ramana said as many as 168 child labourers were identified during the drive, while 10 were found begging in the streets, 40 more were identified as street children.

The team has sent the report to the child welfare committee. Around 100 managements who have been found encouraging the child labour would be served notices under the Juvenile Justice Act 2015. The DCPO also said that majority of the rescued children would be sent to schools.
