It's Harry's birthday, but Potterheads get the gift

VISAKHAPATNAM: HARRY Potter turned 36 on Sunday, but the Potterheads in the city got the most awaited gift. The Potter fans made a beeline for the bookstores to grab the copy of the 8th book of the Harry Potter series ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ (part I and II)’. And the book authored by JK Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany was released with the ‘magic’. With the whip of a wand and casting the spell ‘Alohomora’ (which is used to open doors), the book was unveiled in the city on Sunday. The 7th book, the last of the series, was released in 2007. But, the fans never could got Harry off their heads.

The book stalls arranged a frame resembling the Azkaban prison with a tagline that read ‘Have you seen the wizard? The fans were seen taking selfies. So what is so special about the eighth series? It is based on the original story by JK Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany and playwright Jack Thorne which is the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on the stage.

“I started reading Harry Potter series when I was 11. Its magic never weaned away and the madness still holds sway. Not only on my book shelf, it has a special place in my heart too,” says Latika Deo, the first buyer of the copy.

“My favourite is ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’, where Harry finds that someone was there for him and my favourite is Sirius Black,” she added.

“My favourite character is Ron Weasley. Nobody recognised him in the whole series. But whenever Harry needed help, he was always there. This book is adapted into a stage play which is even more exciting. I am dying to know about how different it would be,” says Keerthi Neotia.  “While we were in the school, we sued to discuss, argue, even fight over the Potter series. Now, the third child of Harry is cursed. So I am very curious to know how Harry would help him,” says Anu Shree.
