SFI enforces schools bandh in WG Dist

ELURU : Following a bandh call given by the SFI, all the government and private schools in West Godavari district were closed down on Monday.

In Eluru city, hundreds of students, under the aegis of student unions including SFI, AISF and PDSU, took out a huge rally in protest against the negligent attitude of the state government towards the education sector. Later, they all gathered at the Fire Station Centre and staged a rasta-roko, bringing the vehicular traffic on the national highway to a grinding halt for more than an hour.

On the occasion, the student leaders alleged that the government was shutting down all the government schools in the name of merger and demanded that the mess charges in welfare hostels be enhanced and own buildings be constructed for all government junior colleges in the district.

Meanwhile, following the bandh call, the private educational institutions declared a holiday on Monday. In some places, the student leaders went to the government schools and requested the students to boycott the classes and join their agitation.
