Godavari Antya Pushkaram receives less turnout of pilgrims on third day

RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM: The third day of the ongoing Godavari Antya Pushkarams-2016 (GAP) witnessed poor turnout of pilgrims due to the State-wide bandh and ‘Amavasya Tithi’ (new moon day). .

All the bathing ghats in Rajamahendravaram and rural areas wore a deserted look till 10am, as not many turned up to take a holy dip in Godavari.

The policemen and the officials on pushkar duty heaved a sigh of relief.

The Rajamahendravaram Urban Police allowed two-wheelers on the Godavari Bund, even as the RTC buses transported the pilgrims to the ghats. Old classic Telugu movies were screened at the iconic Kotilingala Ghat in Rajamahendravaram, to keep up the positive activity.

Meanwhile, the district administration drew flak for failing to supply food to the NSS and NCC volunteers, who were extending relentless service to the pilgrims.

Hundreds of pilgrims took a holy dip in river Godavari at various pushkar ghats in West Godavari district, on the third day of Antya Pushkarams on Tuesday.

In Kovvur, about 2,000 pilgrims offered prayers to river Godavari at Goshpada Kshetram Ghat.
